Peek-a-boo

I see you... RRREOW!!!

(Did I mention that his given name is Ralph Stanley? LOL)

Um... Yeah.

I took The Kid to the summer reading program.

"Mom, all the kids sat at one table and wouldn't let me sit with them."
"It's probably because they don't know you yet, honey"
"Oh... Okay."
"Did you try smiling at them?"
"Yeah, but they turned their heads away."
"Oh... Okay."

So not okay. :o/

A Favorite for Friday

Enjoy...

Challenge

As many of you know, finding time to read (books not blogs) is somewhat of a challenge for me. At the library yesterday, I was perusing the shelves of works written by Kentuckians, and I came across Harriette Arnow's The Dollmaker. It seemed to beckon to me, so, I checked it out. Now, I saw the movie version with Jane Fonda playing the part of Gertie Nevel a long time ago. I can only remember bits and pieces of what I saw. Hoping that it doesn't ruin the experience of reading the book for me! Chuckle.

I also checked out Forever Erma, the best-loved writing of Erma Bombeck and Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I've always loved Erma, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw a romance novel into the mix. Haven't read one of those in a looong time. There were days (pre-marriage) that I read quite a few. The heroes were usually lords of the manor masquerading as pirates or highwaymen. Then there was Wulfgar... The Wolf from The Wolf and The Dove by Kathleen Woodweiss. Swoon.

Two diabetic cookbooks round out my library goodies. The Man and I are both struggling in the glucose arena. He began insulin shots this week and is already seeing positive results. I, on the other hand, am staying in the 200s. This is not good. It may have to do with the sinus infection that has reared it's ugly head once again. Blech. We both go to the doctor tomorrow. I will be finding out the numbers of my bloodwork taken Monday. Pray?

This afternoon will begin the summer reading program. The librarian told me that there have been only four sign-ups in The Kid's age group. This should be interesting... The Kid, of course, is on her head. I've only been asked about it one hundred times, and it's only 9:30. The program doesn't start until 4:00! I'm wondering if it'll be better than the last one. Sigh.

Scattergories

Another fun meme I saw over at Mommy Brain's place!

The game is SCATTERGORIES, and it’s harder than it looks!

Here are the rules:

Use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the following. They MUST be real places, names, things…NOTHING made up! If you can’t think of anything, skip it. Try to use different answers if the person before you had the same 1st initial. You CAN’T use your name for the boy/girl name question. Have fun!

My name begins with: L

1. Famous Singer/Band: Los Lobos

2. 4 letter word: Lime

3. Street: Lara Lane

4. Color: Lavender

5. Gifts/Presents: Lace handkerchiefs

6. Vehicle: Limousine

7. Things in a Souvenir Shop: Lighters

8. Boy Name: Lawrence

9. Girl Name: Lila

10. Movie Title: Last of the Mohicans

11. Drink: Lemonade

12. Occupation: Lawyer

13. Celebrity: Liza Minnelli

14. Magazine: Life

15. U.S. City: Laramie, Texas

16. Pro Sports Teams: Los Angeles Lakers

18. Reason for Being Late for Work: Lost car keys

19. Something You Throw Away: Lint from the clothes dryer

20. Things You Shout: Later tater!

21. Cartoon Character: Little Lotta

Now, how many points did I rack up? Anyone else playing?

Getting Real

Okay, ladies... It's time to Get Real with Randi!

Five Senses

The toilet seal in the bathroom has gone kaput. Sigh. Yesterday, as The Kid and I sat in the truck waiting for The Man to get a new one in Lowes, I noticed that my five senses were suddenly all awhirl at the same time!

Touch - A nice breeze, cooled from a brief rainshower

Taste - Flavor crystals from peppermint gum bursting in my mouth

Smell - Delicious aromas wafting from several fast food places

Sight - Do-it-yourselfers. Lugging everything from flower pots to lumber. There are whole houses in Lowes, just waiting to be built...

Sound - The Kid grumbling from the back seat, "Lowe's is a toy store for daddies. NOT for little girls!" From the mouths of babes... ROFL
